You may not be excited about the prospect of replacing our old, worn out carpet with new tile or wood floors. But I am here to tell you it is 100% worth it. This is what my wife and I did in our home about five years ago, and we have not had any regrets. Here are 8 reasons why it is better to replace your carpet with hardwood or tile: 1) Hardwood and tile are easier to maintain than carpet (no dry-cleaning, no replacing). 2) Hardwood and tile are easier to clean. The only thing harder to clean than carpet is wood floors. 3) Hardwood and tile require less care than carpet. You don't have to vacuum each day or use special cleaners. They just need occasional sweeping with a soft, wet broom. And they don't get dirty enough for you to need to shampoo them once in awhile! 4) Hardwood and tile are more fireproof than carpet (as long as your furniture doesn't match it). I always unplug my Christmas decorations when the house is empty so they won't catch fire during the winter months if our electric heater goes out. 5) Hardwood and tile are more resilient than carpet. Carpet has to retain its padding without losing its insulation value, but hardwood or tile can stand up to 25 years of wear and tear. 6) Hardwood and tile cost less than carpet over the long-term than they would if you had to buy them all over again every 10 years. 7) Hardwood and tile look great regardless of how old your house is. You can add new colors to them that look better than new carpet does, and they don't fade like carpet will in the sun. 8) Hardwood and tile are easier to care for than carpet. You don't have to vacuum or shampoo them. You just have to sweep or vacuum them, then clean up any spots they get after that. I am not saying you shouldn't buy new carpet if you want it. I am just saying hardwood and tile are better in most ways, even though they are less expensive in the short term. You will appreciate them all the more when you don't have to replace them for a longer period of time.
